Sleight of Hand – Voodoo Village:
The name Voodoo Village refers not only to the band that hails from Memphis Tennessee, it’s also the name of a small fenced-in compound, if you will, in that same city. Located in a remote corner of southwest Memphis, the history of Voodoo Village is shrouded in rumours of animal sacrifices and strange rituals. The area gained attention in the early 60’s and since then, it’s been the site of many teen dares and initiations! Now taking their name from this rag-tag assortment of four houses with Voodoo symbols on their front lawns, comes the band Voodoo Village. Native to Memphis and well-versed in the legends that surround the area, the 5-man unit sets out to cast their own unique brand of musical spell with their second offering. Comprised of guitarist Niko Lyras, Ernest Williamson on keys, Pat Register on sax & flute, bassist Dave Smith, and Steve Potts on drums, the band’s roots extend deeply into the rich traditions of soul, blues, gospel, and funk! |

The members are literally some of the most talented players in the USA and share extensive credits, both live and in the studio. Adept at a variety of genres from edgy crossover to smooth, the quintet debuted in 2003 with Funk Soup, a project that received highly favourable reviews across the nation. Now returning with a solid sophomore follow-up, the ensemble sounds bigger, bolder, and better than ever! As such, it’s no less than a treat to now thrust Voodoo Village and Sleight of Hand into the soft glow of our showcase spotlight. We have three great choices beginning with one that shows the band’s more tender side in the track Like An Angel! Next up is a gorgeous tune – the dreamy starry-eyed romanticism created by Candlelight while in the end, Ivory Coast takes us away on a wild and unforgettable ride to a faraway place! |
